Maria Bello's 'The Sun Ladies VR Project'

The immersive documentary about a female-only fighting unit will be showcased at UCLA TFT

Dean Teri Schwartz and the Department of Theater at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television present a special event: Maria Bello's The Sun Ladies VR Project.

As part of its 2018-19 Theater Season, actress-producer Maria Bello is bringing The Sun Ladies VR Project to UCLA TFT in a special, limited-run engagement. This immersive, seven-minute, live-action documentary, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018, puts theatergoers face-to-face with a troop of Yazidi women fighters: After ISIS solders invaded the Yazidi community of Sinjar, killing all the men and taking the women and girls as sex slaves, a group of brave women escaped and started a female-only fighting unit called the Sun Ladies. Together, their goal is to bring back their sisters and protect the honor and dignity of their people.

The live-action sequence is directed by UCLA TFT M.F.A. directing candidate Aya Saleh and features Ava Lalezarzadeh, Taji Senior and Jessica Toltzis, student actors from the Department of Theater at UCLA TFT. The VR sequence is directed by Christian Stephens and Celine Tricart.

This event is free and open to UCLA faculty, students and staff but seating is extremely limited. Complimentary tickets can be obtained on Eventbrite. Please arrive at least 15 minutes in advance or your reservation may be released.
